Standard Timing Model Skills Assessment DeviceOur Electrical Skills Test Device (ESTD) is designed to screen and train for industrial electrician positions and provides a means of quantitatively screening candidates, for use in evaluating job applicants and as a grading device for training purposes. The device resembles an industrial control panel as closely as possible in a portable devise.

Acting as an industrial control device and utilizing signals from standard output devices, the tool sequences through a series of inputs and resets itself. This cycle is repeated continuously as long as the device is in working order.

The Electrical Skills Test Devise is designed to separate electricians of different skill levels on the basis of time spent problem solving a designated set of programmed malfunctions. In addition to purely objective time ranking, the ESTD will also give an indication of specific strengths and weaknesses of the candidate.

Designed by Professionals in their Field

The ESTD was designed in a joint effort by an electrical engineer and a training director who realized the difficulty of evaluating the abilities of electricians. The time on individual tasks will provide indications of strengths or weaknesses in the areas mentioned above. The candidate is presented with a functional circuit and full documentation. He or she is permitted to study the device for a specified period of time and is then asked to leave the room. Once a problem has been incorporated into the device, the candidate will be called back and the time will begin. Since grading of the test is purely on an elapsed time basis, subjective variations in score are eliminated.

Benefits of Ownership

Besides the convenience of having the right testing equipment on-site, on-demand, ownership also gives you the opportunity to build in-house training and apprentice programs. In additon, you can also evaluate your current team for placement into other departments thus maximizing your current workforce. Ownership includes assessment methodology training for incumbent(s) at your facility.

Our Electrical Skills Test equipment is also available for lease. SMT can conduct the assessments at our location, in your facility, or we can train your incumbents the assessment methodology.
