This is a hands-on training program incorporating the use of over 200 hands-on training aids. Students learn using the same tools, components, and systems they will encounter in the manufacturing facility. The program is customizable; you can pick and choose those units most specific to your training needs and objectives based on identified strengths and weaknesses.

SMT’s training program effectively eliminates the manufacturing skills gap by matching the skill set trained to with the critical skills required for long-term productive employment in manufacturing.
As you can see in the "Training Outline" and "Training Objectives" documents the manufacturing training program is broad based. We start with elementary shop math and blueprint reading and progress through advanced Mechanical, Electrical, & PLC troubleshooting training. Each unit consists of a student study guide, hands-on training aids kit, many power points, instructor guide , and student test booklet.

The program curriculum is 100% demand driven. We train to the specific skills our clients have conveyed to us as critical for productive long term employment. In essence, the manufacturing skills training program has been built by and for manufacturing operations professionals over the last thirty-five years.

Schools Deliver Better Qualified Candidates

As schools work to deliver capable candidates into industry the assessment capabilities can provide valuable feedback regarding the effectiveness of their existing programs. For example, if a school’s objective is to provide machine operators/maintenance mechanics for local industry and these graduates are not scoring well on the mechanical skills assessment test the school could identify opportunities to improve their current program. The same dynamic applies to each assessment machine. Conversely, should a graduate interview with a manufacturer and present a strong assessment ranking certification that candidate would have a significant advantage in the hiring process.

Many community colleges that have working relationships with our clients have embraced these solutions to address and solve the skills shortage in their market. This dynamic has been driven by the manufacturing organization. Our manufacturing clients, possessing many years of data and experience regarding the dramatic productivity improvement our programs deliver, have suggested to the schools that they incorporate these tools and methods (both the assessment capabilities and the training program) in an effort to deliver candidates with the critical skills these manufacturers require for long-term productive employment.

Industry Benefits With A More Skilled Workforce

Well known and respected global manufacturers use our assessment program for hiring. These organizations have years of data and experience correlating employee productivity with assessment scores. Any school that trains to the skill set required to post an acceptable score on the manufacturing skills assessment machines will be delivering highly productive employees into the workforce. SMT’s training program delivers graduates that can achieve this objective.
